Island Cove adopts mangrove project

(Cavite, Philippines--April 23, 2014) Island Cove Hotel and Leisure Park adopted a one-hectare area as its own mangrove rehabilitation project in Bacoor, Cavite, near the resort's Fishing Village.

On April 22, Earth Day, representatives from various government agencies and Island Cove planted 5,000 propagules. Nets were installed to ensure their protection from garbage and other threats.

The project was done in cooperation with local government unit (LGU) of Bacoor City and Kawit Agriculture offices and their respective Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Councils (FARMC), with support from the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-CALABARZON. Island Cove's Human Resources Department and the Bayanihan Employees' Council (BEC) handled the logistics.

Among those present were Atty. Marlou Alutaya, Regional Technical Director of DENR-CALABARZON; Engr. Rolio P. Pozas, Regional Executive Director of DENR Cavite; Mr. Reynato Robles, MFARMC-Kawit; Ms. Ella Guinto, Bacoor City Agriculturist; Mr. Allan Chua, Bacoor CFARMC Chairman; and Ms. Judie Fabro, PENRO-Cavite.

Island Cove was represented by Ms. Malu Samaco, Mr. Uli Oposa and Ms. Arlyn Aliño. 

A Memorandum of Agreement was signed by PENRO, the Bacoor LGU and Island Cove strengthening the latter's commitment to assist in maintaining the area.
